Guidance Notes for Applicants
Thank you for your interest in working with the Forum. Please read these notes carefully. They are designed to help you fill in the application form as best you can.
The Person Specification
This gives a list of the essential experience, skills, abilities and understandings we require the post-holder to have. Ensure that all points are covered in your application.
Application Form
We ask that you fill in the form in black ink or type, forms are photocopied for shortlisting and copy quality is best when completed in black.
Please do not include more than two additional sides of A4 paper with your form. CVs alone will not be able to demonstrate clearly enough that you have met all the points on the person specification and therefore are ill advised.
It is always advisable to keep a copy of your form for reference.
Disclosure of criminal convictions, cautions or bind-overs - The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 provides that certain convictions shall be regarded as “spent” after specified periods of time have elapsed. You do not need to disclose convictions that are “spent” at the date you sign the application form. Please feel free to call or email to clarify any points.
Equalities Monitoring Form
Note 1
A disabled person is someone who has an impairment, experiences externally imposed barriers and self-identifies as a disabled person. Impairment is a physical or mental condition of lacking all or part of a limb or having a defective limb, organ or mechanism of the body.
Note 2a
A person has a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) if she or he has a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on her or his ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. Long-term means has lasted, or is expected to last, for 12 months. Included in this definition are the following:
• Physical impairments (including asthma, diabetes, epilepsy etc)
• Mental impairments relating to mental functioning, including learning difficulties and mental health issues which are clinically well-recognised.
• Sensory impairments such as hearing impairment or visual impairment (not corrected by glasses)
• Severe facial disfigurement
• Progressive conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy or HIV infection
• People who have had an impairment in the past but have since recovered (such as cancer, mental health issues).
Note 2b
Examples of reasonable adjustments are: making adjustments to the premises; allocation of work; being flexible about working hours; providing training; using modified equipment; making instructions and manuals more accessible; using a reader or interpreter; and appropriate supervision.
If you require a reasonable adjustment, we will contact you to discuss the requirements you have indicated.
Note 3
We ask for your National Insurance Number on the Application Form and permit status on the monitoring form because we are under legal obligation to ensure you’re able to undertake paid work in this country.
The Closing date for receipt of applications is unfortunately not negotiable. Your application will be assessed according to how well you have met the person specification criteria. A short-list of interview candidates is then drawn up. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of the closing date then you have not been short-listed.
